What attaches you to your community?

I’ve been meaning to post a link to this site for quite some time.

The real reason that I work for the Spokane Parks Foundation is not that I love parks (though I do!). It’s really that I love this community and want to support its growth and improvement. I worked for an organization similar to the Foundation a few years ago and that was where I learned of the immediate and perpetual impact that well-thought-out, well-maintained, well-used parks and public spaces have on a community.

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation asked a few simple questions:

What makes a community a desirable place to live? What draws people to stake their future in it? Are communities with more attached residents better off?

They found that one of the drivers that attaches people to their community (meaning that they don’t just live there but get involved…vote…volunteer…) is “the area’s aesthetics (its physical beauty and green spaces).”

Take a moment and read the article, browse the website and tell me what you think!
